Stenographer Salary in Assam Public Service Commission
The selected candidates for the Stenographer Grade II positions in the Assam Secretariat under the General Administration Department, will receive a pay scale as per the Assam State Government norms. The details are as follows:
• Basic Pay: Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 97,000 per month.
• Grade Pay: Rs. 9,400 per month.
• Pay Band: 3 (PB-3)
In addition to the basic pay and grade pay, Stenographers will be eligible for other allowances as per the rules and regulations of the Government of Assam.
Eligibility Criteria for Stenographer in Assam Secretariat Recruitment 2024
Candidates aspiring to apply for the Assam Secretariat Stenographer Recruitment 2024 will have to fulfil the following eligibility conditions:
Citizenship
The candidate must be an Indian Citizen as defined in Article 5 to 8 of the Constitution of India and must be a permanent resident of Assam.

Age Limit for Stenographer Vacancy in Assam
Candidates willing to apply for the Stenographer vacancy in Assam PSC should be between 21 and 38 years of age as of 1st January 2024. Age relaxations for reserved categories are applicable as follows:

Application Fee for Assam Secretariat Stenographer Job Vacancy 2024
APSC has decided to launch its Online Recruitment portal with the help of CSC-SPV which will charge a processing fee of Rs. 40.00/- + 18% tax = Rs. 47.20 from each candidate. This amount will be above the prescribed application fee which is indicated below:
- • General including Ex-servicemen : Rs. 250 + Rs. 47.20 = Rs. 297.20
- • SC/ST/OBC/MOBC including Ex-servicemen : Rs. 150 + Rs. 47.20 = Rs. 197.20

Selection Process for Assam Secretariat Stenographer Vacancy 2024
The selection process for the recruitment of Stenographer Grade II by the Assam Secretariat consists of two main stages.
1. Stenography Proficiency Test
Candidates whose applications are accepted will first appear for the Stenography Proficiency Test.
The test will be conducted at a speed of:- • 100 WPM in English.
- • 90 WPM in one of the languages (Assamese, Bengali, or Hindi).
There will be a trial passage and a test passage, both dictated by the same person to help candidates familiarize themselves with the dictation style, accents, and pronunciation. The trial passage will be dictated twice at the same speed as the test passage, with a one-minute interval in between.
Qualifying Criteria:
- • Candidates must transcribe a minimum of 460 correct words from a 5-minute dictation at 100 WPM for the English Stenography Test.
- • For the Language Stenography Test (Assamese, Bengali, or Hindi), candidates must transcribe a minimum of 414 correct words from a 5-minute dictation at 90 WPM.
- • The minimum qualifying marks in the Stenography Proficiency Test are 40 marks. Candidates will be awarded 40 marks for the minimum number of correct words transcribed. An additional 2 marks will be awarded for each extra correct word transcribed beyond the minimum requirement.
Candidates who qualify in the Stenography Proficiency Test will be shortlisted for the Objective Type Written Test. For each vacancy, four candidates will be shortlisted based on the marks obtained in the Stenography Proficiency Test.
2. Objective Type Written Test
The Objective Type Written Test will be of 2 hours duration with a total of 100 marks. The marks are distributed as follows:
- • English: 50 marks
- • Knowledge and ability to operate a computer: 20 marks
- • General Knowledge (including 10 marks on Assam History): 30 marks
3. Final Selection
The final selection of candidates will be based on the aggregate marks obtained in both the Stenography Proficiency Test and the Objective Type Written Test.
In the event of a tie (two or more candidates obtaining equal aggregate marks), preference will be given based on the marks scored in the Stenography Proficiency Test.
