Selection Process for Gauhati High Court Aizawl Bench Job Vacancy 2024
The selection process for the recruitment of Stenographer Grade-III and Lawn Attendent in the Aizawl Bench of the Gauhati High Court will be carried out in 3 (three) stages and 2 (two) stages respectively.
Stenographer Grade-III
The selection for the Stenographer Grade-III post consists of three stages:
Stage I: Stenography Test
- • Total Marks: 90
- • Components:
- • Voice Testing: A 2-minute session to familiarize candidates with the dictation style.
- • Dictation: Candidates will take down dictation at a speed of 80 words per minute. The dictation will cover approximately 560 words, lasting around 7 minutes.
- • Computer Familiarization: Candidates will have 3 minutes to get comfortable with the computer setup.
- • Transcription: Candidates will transcribe the dictated passage onto a computer within a 20-minute period.
Candidates in the ratio of 1:10 from the merit list of the stenography test will qualify to appear in Stage-II (Written Test).
Stage II: Written Test (Descriptive Type)
- • Total Marks: 100
- • Duration: 2 hours
- • The test will focus on English language proficiency and includes sections on composition, essay writing, and grammar.
- • This is a qualifying exam, so the marks obtained in the written test will not count towards the final merit list. However, candidates need to score at least 40% (i.e., 40 marks out of 100) to be considered qualified in the written test.
Candidates in the ratio of 1:3 in order of merit in the stenography test will qualify to appear in the Interview/Viva-Voce, provided they have passed the written test.
Stage III: Interview/Viva Voce
- • Total Marks: 30
- • Passing Requirement: Candidates must secure at least 60% marks (18 out of 30) in the interview to qualify.
Final selection will be made on the basis of the total marks obtained by the candidate in the Stenography test and Interview/Viva-Voce.
2. Lawn Attendant (Group-D)
The selection process for the Lawn Attendant position is simpler, with two stages:
Stage I: Written Test (Objective Type)
- • Total Marks: 50
- • Duration: 90 minutes
- • Components: The test will consist of multiple-choice questions based on the Class VIII standard, covering general knowledge, basic mathematics, and other relevant subjects.
Note: There are no negative marks for incorrect answers, allowing candidates to attempt all questions without penalty.
Candidates in the ratio of (1:5) in order of merit in the written test will be called to appear in the Interview/Viva-Voce and verification of original testimonials.
Stage II: Interview/Viva Voce

- • Passing Requirement: Candidates must score at least 60% (12 out of 20) in the interview to be considered qualified.
Final selection will be made on the basis of the total marks obtained by the candidate in the written test and Interview/Viva-Voce.
